Bodega Bay, CA

The Links at Bodega Harbour

Perched along the spectacular Sonoma County Coast, about 70 miles north of San Francisco, The Links at Bodega Harbour has long been known as a hidden gem that delivers great value. A tee time on this links-style layout that showcases Pacific Ocean views from all eighteen holes in unpretentious, low-key Bodega Bay is something of a poor man’ s alternative to ultra cool Monterey Bay’ s Pebble Beach Golf Links. A Robert Trent Jones, Jr. design, The Links at Bodega Harbour opened with nine holes in 1978 and became a full 18-hole layout in 1987. Jones came back for an extensive renovation in 2008. Though the course winds amidst tightly packed housing throughout much of the round, the combination of rolling fairways, cavernous pot bunkers, undulating greens, native coastal rough and seaside marshes create a glorious golf setting. The par 70 playing field maxes out at only 6,230 yards, but it presents a formidable challenge, especially when the wind is up. Hilly terrain spells lots of elevation changes and frequent awkward lies and stances. You’ ll need accurate shot making to avoid the ball-consuming rough and nearly 100 bunkers. The three finishing holes at The Links at Bodega Harbour, called “ The Pit” by locals, are right by the ocean and the exhilarating highlights of the round. All players are required to walk holes 16th and 17th holes (pull carts are set out for players). Bite off as much of the protected wetlands as you dare on your drive on the short, angled par-4 16th. The 17th is a long carry par 3 over the environmentally sensitive area. You get your cart back for the fabulous finishing hole— a long par 4 with a tough tee shot around bunkers and marsh en route to a final downhill approach backdropped by the ocean. Note that weather conditions can change quickly and the marine layer fog often hampers visibility and may even delay play. Practice facilities at The Links at Bodega Harbour include a putting green and a chipping area. There’ s no range, but you can take a few warm-up swings in a hitting net. The facility boasts a well-stocked pro shop, a snack shack and grill next to the shop and a bistro restaurant. The 19th hole ocean views can’ t be beat. Don’ t miss out on a tee time at The Links at Bodega Harbour— it’ s a spectacular golf experience that provides great bang for your buck.

La Quinta, CA

PGA WEST - Pete Dye Stadium Course

Rated as on of the "Top 100 Courses in the World" by GOLF MAGAZINE and 4th toughest course in America in Golf Digest's "Top 50 Toughest Courses in America (2007)," there may be no greater challenege or excitement in the game of golf than the Stadium at PGA WEST! The world famous Stadium is one of Pete Dye's finest course creations, delivering multiple adrenaline rushes throughout the round. A "must play" for all golfers, but no the faint of heart. Host to PGA TOUR "Q-School" Finals every other year, PGA TOUR hopefuls must steady their nerves to navigate the island green of hole #17, known as Alcatraz. Imagine yourself as one of them, needing to make par on the menacing water-lined 18th hole to earn the coveted PGA TOUR card! Named "Stadium" due to Dye's successful efforts of sculpting spectator seating into the natural terrain along fairways and surrounding the greens, many great moments in golf history have occurred here, including Lee Trevino's unforgettable hole-in-one on Alcatraz. This aced him the win of a huge carry-over Skin worth $175,000 in the 1987 made-for-TV "Skin's Game" hosted by PGA WEST from 1986 through 1991. With five sets of tees, the Stadium lures all skill levels and final scores should be measured by laughs and awe-inspiring moments, not by numbers on a scorecard.

Course photo for BayonetPublic tee-time evidence

Seaside, CA

Bayonet

Bayonet, with its narrow playing corridors and steep, penal bunkering, has long been considered the most difficult test of golf on the Monterey Peninsula. The par-72, 7,104-yard course has retained its famous bite after the recent renovation by award-winning architect Gene Bates, but playability and strategic options have been greatly improved. The uphill, dogleg right, 476-yard, par-4 ninth hole exemplifies the course's significant challenge.Black Horse, a 7,024-yard, par-72 layout, features sweeping vistas of the Pacific and is highlighted by fescue-framed fairways, bunkers with distinctive, serrated edges and slickly-contoured greens. The par-3 15th, created during the renovation, faces the bay and is sure to emerge as one of the great holes on the Peninsula.

Course photo for Rustic Canyon Golf CoursePublic access under review

Moorpark, CA

Rustic Canyon Golf Course

Rustic Canyon is a tribute to the very roots of the game with a lay-of-the-land creation by Hanse Golf Design. Built without detailed blueprints or working drawings, Hanse Golf shaped the large contoured, free-form green complexes and sculpted the bunkers from the natural landscape preserving and incorporating into the design the native barrancas. The canyon hills are dotted with sagebrush, cactus, waves of brome and stipa grass highlighted by a few picturesque oaks. Rustic Canyon is an exercise in restraint with flat, wide-open fairways that fade into the native surroundings and bunkers edged with shaggy eyebrows of thick, drooping fescue. The ground game is critical as the greens play to a bump & run approach. Rustic Canyon is a strategic course for golfers who savor the discovery of a proper approach position on an expansive fairway to best attack the green depending on the pin location. #1 BEST VALUE IN THE U.S.A in the September & October 2010 issues of Golf Magazine. We were also ranked #6 in the state of California's "BEST COURSES YOU CAN PLAY" list by Golf Weekly Magazine 2017.

Rancho Palos Verdes, CA

The Links at Terranea

The Links at Terranea, an amenity of the ultra-luxurious Terranea resort in Rancho Palos Verdes, California, is a breathtaking 9-hole par-3 course that welcomes public tee times. When you play at this upscale facility you will revel in ocean views from every hole on an award-winning short course designed by Todd Eckenrode. The Links at Terranea has been rated the no. 2 best short course in the U.S. by Golf magazine and it is a fixture on Golf Advisor's list of the Top 25 Short Courses in the U.S. Routed over rolling hills with glorious panoramas of the Pacific shoreline and Catalina Island, The Links at Terranea is a walking course that typically takes a little over 90 minutes to play. Groups of up to five (including spectators) can go out together. Push carts are available for use, and if someone is physically unable to walk the course, an adaptive golf cart can be reserved. Eckenrode’ s design at The Links at Terranea is full of features such as elevated tee boxes, elaborate bunkering, and intricate green complexes. The greens, which come in a pleasing variety of shapes and sizes— notably a punchbowl and a boomerang-shaped putting surface— roll fast. With three sets of tee markers, The Links at Terranea plays at 716 yards from the forward tees, 1,037 yards from the middle, and 1,239 yards from the back tees. From the tips, the holes range between 104 yards and 173 yards. Wind can really ramp up the challenge. This is especially true on The Links at Terranea’ s signature 3d hole, a long test that plays into the wind with a series of bunkers and tall grass up the left side. A contoured sideboard on the right side helps balls ride the slopes onto the putting surface. The payoff on this hole is a glorious Pacific panorama. Keep an eye out for whales. If you want to warm up for your round, The Links at Terranea boasts an impressive short-game facility that includes chipping and putting greens that mimic conditions on the course. The Golf House features a well-stocked pro shop and an outdoor seating area where you can relax as you bask in the views with a beverage. A tee time to play the enchanting par-3 Links at Terranea on the picturesque seaside cliffs of Rancho Palos Verdes is not to be missed.?
