Junior National Golf Club

Pardon our "dirt." We are in the process of revegetating the desert areas between some holes as we return the course back into the Desert Golf Course it was designed to be by Red Lawrence aka "The Desert Fox." During this time, "Winter Rules" are in effect in the "General Area" which is everywhere except for the teeing area, the putting green of the hole being played and bunkers or penalty areas. Without penalty, you may move your ball onto the grass and place it in a good lie on good turf. This includes relief from the rough alongside the areas being worked on as that area can be wet and/or have equipment tracks. Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding as we work to restore and renovate this 1960's course!

Scottsdale, AZ

Scottsdale CC

Starfire Golf Club in north central Scottsdale is one of the most popular, user-friendly, and affordable golf facilities in the Valley of the Sun. This welcoming 27-hole club, conveniently located on Hayden Road between Cactus and Shea, strives to make the game fun for everyone. The playing field runs through a residential community and occupies the site of the old Scottsdale Country Club, one of Scottsdale’ s original golf courses. Though houses border the golf grounds, mature eucalyptus, pine and cottonwood trees make for an attractive buffer. Starfire Golf Club formerly featured three regulation nines designed by Arnold Palmer (Palmer modified the original 18 holes on the site and added a completely new nine). In 2018 the club implemented a plan to designate the former King and South (aka Hawk) nines as the front and back nines of the 18-hole King Course. At the same time, the old Squire nine by the parking lot was converted into the Mulligan 9, a short, 9-hole par-28 course, as well as an expanded driving range. Starfire Golf Club— King Course is a 6,106-yard, par-70 layout that gives players of all ability levels a chance to shoot a good score. Four judiciously spaced sets of tee markers ensure that everyone can find an appropriate distance to play from. The forward tees measure just 4,467 yards. With its tree-lined fairways and pretty water hazards, Starfire Golf Club— King Course sports a lush look (as long as drought conditions aren’ t ruling the day). The round is full of exciting shots. As the short distance of the course suggests, the layout calls for accuracy rather than power. When houses and the road are close by, the intimidation level rises. About half of the holes feature water hazards. The most memorable hole on Starfire Golf Club— King Course is the 4th, a par 3 with an island-green. For the most part, though, this is a traditional course that isn’ t about forced carries. The greens are receptive, uncomplicated, and pretty easy to read, so when you’ re standing over a putt you’ ll feel like you have a chance to drain it. In 2021 Bubba Watson famously came to Starfire Golf Club— King Course for Golf Digest magazine to see what a PGA Tour player would shoot on a popular, everyday public track. His 62 tied the course record, but, more importantly, his day at the course showcased the enjoyment everyone can have at an affordable price. Starfire

Course photo for Del Lago Golf ClubPublic tee-time evidence

Vail, AZ

Del Lago Golf Club

Tucson golfers greatly appreciate the natural beauty of a high course that rests at an elevation of 3,400 feet - five degrees cooler than Tucson during the summer. del Lago Golf Club serves as the centerpiece of Rancho del Lago, a master-planned community located about 20 minutes from downtown Tucson off Interstate 10. With 120 feet of elevation change, the club`s 1st hole begins at the highest point, then plays down into the valley, coming to the back nine, which runs along the Pantano Wash. The course winds its way through the hills and valleys of the high desert, with spectacular and unique views of the backside of the Rincon Mountains and the Santa Catalinas. Except for the 1st hole, which has the course`s only forced carry, del Lago is golfer-friendly off the tees. Let the more skilled players play the back tees, which at 7,206 yards, carry a rating of 73.9 and a slope of 135. Par is 72. The greens are Tif Eagle, a Bermuda hybrid, while the fairways are Bermuda in the summer and overseeded rye in the winter. Seven lakes at del Lago come into play on six holes, affecting a variety of shots: some drives, several approaches - just enough to put a little spice into the round. Strong bunkering around the greens adds to the challenge. It all ends with a tough uphill par-4, 421-yard finishing hole that has water in play for two shots. The clubhouse includes a full-service pro shop and bar & grill, and green fees are also golfer-friendly, considering the quality of the course. del Lago has one of the biggest - if not the biggest - practice facilities in the area, including a driving range, a practice bunker, and a 12,000 square foot practice green.

The two courses, both of which were designed by the late esteemed course architect Desmond Muirhead, have been delighting local and traveling golfers ever since they opened in 1972. Along with the Pine Course at McCormick Ranch Golf Club, The Palm Course winds through the well-to-do master-planned McCormick Ranch community. With five sets of tee markers, the par-72 test can play as short as 5,057 yards and as long as a hefty 7,044 yards. (Note that carts are mandatory.) Muirhead' s traditional-style layout features lush grass that extends from tee to green. In fact, you might be inclined to think you were on a Florida golf course were it not for the stunning views of the McDowell Mountains and Camelback Mountain.
