Minnechaug Golf Course

Minnechaug Golf Course features one of the most exciting attractions in all of Hartford golf...an island green. Hole #8, a 126-yard, par 3, which some consider to be the first island green of its kind in the nation is a gem for all to see. The greens are challenging and smoother than ever too! The tee boxes and fairways at Minnechaug are plush and in excellent shape due to the tremendous effort of superintendent Bryant Gregg and his staff.

Myrtle Beach, SC

Myrtlewood Golf Club - Pine Hills

Myrtlewood Golf Club’s PineHills Course in Myrtle Beach, one of the Grand Strand’s first layouts, has stood the test of time. Established in 1966, the PineHills Course underwent a total makeover by architect Arthur Hill to be nominated for the title “Best New Resort Course” by Golf Digest in 1994. It has been a popular choice among local golfers and visitors ever since. Stretching along the banks of the Intracoastal Waterway, PineHills features tif-dwarf Bermuda grass greens and fairways that make the course a modern masterpiece. Measuring just 6,640 yards from the back tees, PineHills incorporates creative use of mounding and strategic placement of water hazards and tight, tree-lined fairways to present golfers with a test that requires finesse over brute force.

Newbern, TN

Oakview Links Golf Course

Oakview Links Golf Course, located near Highway 51 about nine miles northeast of Dyersburg, is a popular no-frills 9-hole layout in Newbern, Tennessee. The 1970-vintage playing field is owned by the City of Newbern but privately operated. Over the years the course has built up a loyal following of devoted members and regulars who really like it. Oakview Links Golf Course is fun for golfers of diverse skill levels, as it boasts an intriguing layout that spreads out over hilly terrain. As the name suggests, mature oaks dot the fairways, though they are not present in abundance. Most of the playing corridors are quite open. The par-36 layout provides two sets of tee markers. The forward markers measure 2,308 yards and the back tees extend to 3,017 yards. Oakview Links Golf Course allows players to ease into the round with an opening par-3 hole followed by a short par 4. While distance is a factor on a couple of tests, including a 560-yard par 5, the chief threats to scoring are water hazards that enter the fray on five holes and the hilly terrain. You can expect plenty of awkward lies and stances as you make your way around this pretty playing field that doesn’ t have any houses around it. Walking is permitted and common despite the hills. The greens are medium in size with some back-to-front tilt. Practice facilities at Oakview Links Golf Course are limited. You’ ll find a putting green and an area beside the clubhouse where you can hit various shots, but you’ ll have to use your own balls and retrieve them yourself. The spartan clubhouse has a golf shop where you can get a few snacks. Oakview Links Golf Course, the sister course to the more upscale 18-hole The Farms Golf Club in Dyersburg, stays open in the fall through Thanksgiving weekend. It reopens in the spring when the weather breaks. For a pleasing, challenging and budget-friendly tee time near Dyersburg, make a tee time to play Oakview Links Golf Course in Newbern.

Course photo for Palm Desert Resort Country ClubPublic tee-time evidence

Palm Desert, CA

Palm Desert Resort Country Club

Set against the backdrop of the Santa Rosa and San Jacinto mountains, Palm Desert Resort Country Club offers a well-maintained golf course that's both beginner friendly and challenging to better players. Around 6,600 yards from the back set of tees, the course has numerous water features and bunkers, as well as plenty of palm trees to navigate to provide plenty of challenge for the better. But five sets of tees, starting at 4,507 yards, means it's very player-friendly. Wide fairways and large greens with openings between the bunkers are great for those who like to play running shots, while the better player will find plenty of opportunities to score. The course is hardly a pushover, though. The no. 1 handicap hole is the 471-yard par-4 11th, a dogleg right that requires a long, accurate tee shot to get a good look at the green. Palm Desert Resort Country Club, which was designed by Joe Mulleneaux and opened in 1983, has a nice variety of par 5s and par 3s. The par-5 fifth is just 484 yards from the tips, so it's a good risk-reward hole with a lake that goes down the entire right side of the approach on this dogleg right hole. The par 3s range from 158 yards to 203 yards from the back tees. In addition to the golf course, Palm Desert Country Club also has a driving range and putting green. Lessons are also available from the professional staff. The Resorter Cafe is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, offering breakfast burritos, sandwiches, burgers, and salads.
