Whitestone Golf Club

Course photo for Golf Club at Champions CirclePublic tee-time evidence

Fort Worth, TX

Golf Club at Champions Circle

The Golf Club at Champions Circle in North Fort Worth, Texas is a favorite place to play among golfers looking for an intriguing, challenging course that delivers good value in the Dallas metroplex region. Located near the Texas Motor Speedway, the course debuted in 2000 as a Greg Norman creation before it was redesigned by Jay Morrish in 2002. In 2019 it was altered again to make room for BigShots Golf, a TopGolf-like driving range and entertainment center. The course is a chief amenity of the recently renovated Dallas/Fort Worth Marriott Hotel & Golf Club at Champions Circle. With a tee time at The Golf Club at Champions Circle, you'll be immersed in a beautiful setting on a fun layout that boasts a reputation for fine playing conditioning all year round. Morrish applied his minimalistic design ethos to The Golf Club at Champions Circle, as he let the natural topographic features of an old cattle ranch hold sway. The routing rambles over and around natural hillsides as it weaves its way amidst natural creeks, majestic oaks, limestone rock outcroppings. These features not only provide variety and fun, they also present strategic challenges. The Golf Club at Champions Circle is not an easy, cookie-cutter resort course. The Par-71 playing field can be played from four different, judiciously spaced sets of tee markers. Whereas the forward tees measure 4,753 yards, the tips extend to 6,487 yards. Accuracy rather than power is the key to scoring at The Golf Club at Champions Circle. Tee shots begin in chutes of trees on this tight layout that presents plenty of risk-reward options. Morrish's smooth putting surfaces are small and sloped. Practice facilities at The Golf Club at Champions Circle include a double-ended driving range, a chipping area, and two putting greens. The pro shop carries a wide variety of merchandise. With its clubhouse renovations and the addition of an impressive Texas-style event space, The Golf Club at Champions Circle strives to make the after-golf experience as fun as the round itself. No wonder golfers from all over the Metroplex region come to North Fort Worth for tee times at The Golf Club at Champions Circle.

Course photo for Wildcat Golf ClubPublic tee-time evidence

Houston, TX

Wildcat Golf Club

The first of the two courses at Wildcat Golf Club in Houston, the Highlands is a links-style layout with elevation change, a few blind shots, and high fun factor. Designed by Roy Case, who also crafted the Lakes Course at Wildcat, the Highlands is a par-72 that plays 6,954 yards from the back tees (there are four other sets, starting at 5,005 yards). It opened in 2001, and established a first for courses in the area. First off, it's built on a reclaimed site that served as an oil field as well as a landfill. There are pump jacks on the course to this day, which is part of what gives it some much character. Secondly, the views are incredible. Due north is the imposing NRG Stadium, home of the Houston Texans in the NFL (and the now empty Astrodome), as well as Houston's massive Medical Center area. You can also see downtown Houston and the Williams Tower in the Galleria from different parts of the course. As for the layout, Case created visual deception on many of the holes, with native grasses lining fairways and some of the bunkers. There are some big elevation changes, too, which is very atypical for courses in the Houston area. The semi-private club is also billed as the preferred home of the city's professional sports teams, and it's not uncommon to see local sports celebrities out there from time to time. Both courses share excellent practice facilities that include a double-sided range, practice putting greens and extensive short-game area that includes a practice bunker. The golf shop is well stocked and well laid-out. And inside the clubhouse is the excellent restaurant, Vista Grille, a popular spot that offers breakfast, lunch and dinner.
