Course photo for Twisted Dune Golf ClubPublic tee-time evidence

Egg Harbor Township, NJ

Twisted Dune Golf Club

One of New Jersey's top public courses, Twisted Dune Golf Club is a beautiful linksy-looking layout with wonderful conditions and terrific views. Located along the Jersey Shore not far from Atlantic City, the 7,248-yard golf course was designed by architect Archie Struthers. Deep ravines, grassy hills and rolling fairways provide plenty of great scenery and a nice variety of holes on the course, which opened in 2001. Struthers strove to create a layout where each hole is isolated. To do that, the holes are lined by huge dunes covered with fescue. More than 2 million cubic yards of earth were moved to create this Scottish links look. The course is laden with bunkers, some of them of the pot variety, and there are some water features that come into play as well. The fairways are generous, so the course, which has five sets of tees starting at 4,930 yards, is very playable. The course has many formidable holes, of course, such as the difficult par-4 fifth, a dogleg right that plays to a green almost completely surrounded by huge bunkers. The 14th is another tough hole. This 410-yard par 4 has water on both sides of the fairway, requiring both length and accuracy. In addition to the course, Twisted Dune also has outstanding practice facilities that include a full range, short-game area, and practice putting green. The club also has a great golf academy for anyone looking to improve their game. There is also a fully-stocked golf shop in the clubhouse, offering the latest in apparel and accessories.

Course photo for Weequahic Park Golf CoursePublic access under review

Newark, NJ

Weequahic Park Golf Course

Weequahic Park Golf Course is set on a beautifully rolling property and new bunkers have been added to the course through our renovation efforts that have greatly enhanced its strategic and visual appeal. Tucked in the corner of Newark’s historic Weequahic Park, this is the oldest public course in New Jersey having been designed by Baltusrol Golf Club professional George Low in 1913. While Weequahic measures slightly less than 6,000 yards, the course offers an ideal golfing landscape and its small greens make low scoring difficult. Among the best holes on this lovely course are the uphill par five 3rd with two large bunkers carved into the hillside on this hole, as well as the long par four 16th that plays to the crest of this same hill and down to the green that is set in base of its long slope.

A provider indicates that the course may allow public play, but Golf One has not yet verified the access claim strongly enough for search indexing.

Oak Ridge, NJ

Bowling Green Golf Club

Beauty, challenge and classic golf are all wrapped up into one when you experience Bowling Green Golf Club. The course, which measures nearly 6,900 yards from the back tees, is a wonderful Geoffrey Cornish/Bill Sullivan design that opened in 1963. Today it has seven sets of tees, starting at a little more than 5,000 yards so players of all levels can enjoy it. As you make your way around the course, you'll encounter streams and ponds, strategic bunkering, rolling fairways, towering pines and oaks and well-protected classic greens. The course, which lies in a valley below the rugged terrain of Morris County's Mahlon Dickerson Park, is Eastern Woodlands landscape. It's gorgeous in every season, with blossoming dogwoods in the spring and spectacular fall colors in the autumn. The course is easily walkable, pace is usually good, and the facility is known for its personalized, friendly service. The front nine, which isn't easy, is probably a little more forgiving than the back nine, which incorporates more ponds and wetlands into the design. The no. 1 handicap hole is the 443-yard par-4 seventh, a dogleg left that plays out of a chute of trees to a green well protected by bunkers. In addition to the golf course, Bowling Green Golf Club offers a driving range and practice putting green. Golf lessons are also available for anyone needing a little help. And the clubhouse features a well-stocked golf shop. One of the most popular options, though, is Bowling Green's Beer Garden, which features a diverse menu every day as well as a wide selection of craft beers.

Course photo for Peddie Golf ClubPublic tee-time evidence

East Windsor, NJ

Peddie Golf Club

Peddie Golf Club's beautifully maintained, 18-hole, par-72 course challenges golfers at every skill level. Its relatively short length keeps strategic golfers in the game while well designed doglegs and par 5s keep the big hitters on their toes. This par 72 course has an unusual combination of 5 par 3s and 5 par 5s and although the par 3s are short, few golfers are able to take advantage of them. The length and layout of the par 5s make it difficult to make up strokes here as well.
