Metamora, MI

Metamora Golf & Country Club

Metamora Golf and Country Club is a Metamora golf course that offers one of the longer tests among the Detroit-area golf courses in Michigan. From the most distant tee boxes, this Don Childs creation stretches to 6,894 yards in length. It carries a significant slope of 136, and the USGA course rating is an impressive 73.4. This 177-acre facility is in the northern suburbs of Detroit. When you get Metamora tee time deals here, a world of bent grass fairways and shimmering waters awaits. Over four dozen bunkers enhance the challenges from tee to green. Water comes into play on all but two of the holes thanks to streams, creeks, and ponds. The 524 yard third hole requires a heroic approach to an island green. Holes nine and ten offer a unique opportunity to play back-to-back par fives. The contoured bent grass greens can play fast. One is wise to keep it below the hole throughout the round. Enjoy the benefits of playing in a country club setting. Many amenities are to be enjoyed, including full practice facilities and a complete pro shop. PGA pros are available for lessons. Enjoy the restaurant in the modern clubhouse as well.

Gaylord, MI

Michaywe Pines Course

The Michaywe Pines Course features secluded fairways winding through beautiful white birch and pine forests along the AuSable River. Strategic bunkering and a minimum of water hazards add to the character of this unique classic style course. The Pines was the site for the 1991 and 1996 Michigan Amateur Championship tournaments. After 32 years, the Pines course was completely renovated and restored in 2004 by Don Childs, the original architect. Every hole features tee boxes carpeted with bent grass sod and each bunker is deeply shouldered with Bluegrass sod and filled with high quality sand. The positioning of the bunkers allows for a wide approach area into most of the greens. The Pines course is quite female friendly due to the forward tees for the ladies, yet it plays over 7000 yards from the tips requiring strategies from tee to green on every hole.

Established as an 18 hole championship golf course in 1993, Mistwood has grown over the past 20 years with the addition of a third nine holes to form the present Red, White and Blue Course rotation, as well as on-site lodging, a par 3 course and full service dining. The rolling topography and dynamic course design allows for seasonal transitions in playability. Firmer course conditions allow the natural slopes and moguling to open up the creative style of links golf, while softer soils render parkland-esque dart boards that reward laser-like approaches. The Blue Nine has an excellent flow with great driving lanes and abundant opportunities to light up the card. Despite the ability to hide pins in the nooks of undulating greens, a scoring lane will expose itself with proper positioning in the fairway.
