Gateway National Golf Links

Everyone's pictures look great, but we are on the GolfWeek's Best Places You Can Play List! Designed by renowned golf course architect, Keith Foster, and developed by Tim Crowley and Denny Walters, Gateway National remains the only true links-style course in the St. Louis Metropolitan area. A fearsome 7178 yard par 71 from the championship tees, the course has four sets of more manageable tees for the enjoyment of those not quite up to the challenge of the PGA Tour caliber layout. Gateway National offers you the rare opportunity to return to the rich traditions of the game. Rolling links, separated by gentle mounds, meander through lush, green pasturelands. Tall grasses, lakes, wood-tie bunkers, and occasional giant cottonwoods complete the landscape. In view of the magnificent Gateway Arch, you will cross occasional stone bridges, glide on raised boardwalks through quiet wetlands, and enjoy play on the only public course, bent grass fairways within hundreds of miles. Laid out through native grasses, it's easy to forget you are just minutes away from the action in downtown St. Louis, and not tucked away deep in the Scottish Highlands. This facility is managed by Walters Golf Management.

Course photo for Phillips Park Golf CoursePublic tee-time evidence

Aurora, IL

Phillips Park Golf Course

The first golfers at the Phillips Park Golf Course hit the links on the hilly nine, back in the mid 1920’s. The original 60 acres for the park were donated to the city by the estate of Travis Phillips in 1899. Phillips had served as Mayor and as an Alderman in Aurora and was also a downtown merchant. The hilly area consisted of several wooded coves and lagoons that had been used for picnics and family outings as far back as 1835. It was known as “Scharsburg’s Woods” in the 1860’s, and as “Sharp Shooter Park” in the 1870’s when it featured a beer garden, a shooting range, and a vineyard, followed by Evan’s Parks in the mid 1880’s when attractions included a dance hall and a refreshment hall, and then as City Park in 1899. Residents commonly referred to it as Phillips Park, prior to it being officially named so by the City Council in 1902.

Course photo for Ravisloe Country ClubPublic tee-time evidence

Homewood, IL

Ravisloe Country Club

Historically distinctive, exclusively yours! At Ravisloe, 18 elegantly crafted and strategically engaging holes await. The Donald Ross influence, courtesy of a 1917-1919 Ross renovation, and an ambitious 2001 David Esler restoration consistent with Ross principles, is unmistakable. The backdrop is an iconic Spanish Mission-style clubhouse resplendent with charm and character of days gone by. Don't be seduced by the lush grounds that evoke thoughts of European gardens, nor by the course's generous tree-lined fairways, and reasonable length. (Remember that 6300 yards is considerable for a par 70 layout.) Distinctive greens and diabolical bunkers will challenge your game to the fullest. You'll need every club in your bag, especially around the greens, to be sucessful here. Ravisloe is a must play for anyone who loves the game of golf.
