Sunnyvale Golf Course is a sporty municipal course that has long delighted Bay Area golfers of all ability levels who appreciate its intriguing design, fair challenge, and very affordable tee times. Sunnyvale Golf Course is an ideal course for beginners and for those players who prefer a round that won’ t beat them up. It is also a joy for those who like to walk. The course, which opened in 1968, is one of two munis (Sunken Gardens Golf Course is the other) in Sunnyvale, a city located between San Jose and Palo Alto. The playing field, which is less than 10 miles from San Jose International Airport, is easy to get to. Highway 237 bisects the course and Highway 101 is just beyond the northern boundary of the layout. While some business buildings border one end of the playing field, there aren’ t any houses alongside the fairways. During your round at Sunnyvale Golf Course you'll be treated to views of the Santa Cruz Mountains and Hangar One of Moffett Federal Airfield, one of the world’ s largest freestanding structures. The playing field features very flat fairways lined by mature trees.Three teeing options are available on this par 70 layout that can play as short as 5,170 yards and as long as 6,248 yards. Sunnyvale Golf Course makes up for its lack of distance with an interesting routing. It features a nice mix of straight and dogleg holes. Wide fairways permit players to swing freely and boldly hit their driver. If your ball wides up amongst the trees or in longer grass, you can usually pull off a recovery shot. This is a course where players of no great skill are often able to use the same golf ball throughout their entire round. The challenge ramps up when the wind is blowing— windy conditions often prevail during the summer months. While all of the ponds on Sunnyvale Golf Course have dried up and are likely to remain so, they still can pose a threat to par, as can the layout’ s sand traps. One of the strengths of Sunnyvale Golf Course is its greens. The smooth putting surfaces are medium in size and easy to read. Since the greens don’ t have dramatic breaks, one-putts are quite common here. Amenities at Sunnyvale Golf Club are spartan. You can practice putting on a small putting green, but you won’ t find a driving range or a short game area. You should also bring your own snacks if you want anything to eat during your round. Cherry Island Golf Course

Situated along the banks of the Trinity River and ranked among the top 25 daily fee courses in Dallas-Ft.Worth, Riverside Golf Club is perhaps the purest golf experience in the area. A challenging mix of traditional links-style holes designed by Roger Packard, this gem of a course features one of the best sets of par 3?s in Texas. Riverside has created a unique playability that is a great challenge for veteran golfers and beginners alike. Just minutes away from DFW Airport, Six Flags Over Texas, The Ballpark at Arlington, and Texas Stadium, Riverside is a natural choice for your casual round or your group event. One of the most interesting parts of the course comes on the par-4 seventh and par-3 eighth holes. The seventh, the no. 1 handicap hole, plays just under 400 yards from the tips. It is a sharp dogleg right over a lake that's also shared by the eighth, which plays 168 yards from the back tees.? The course ends with a short par 4, but it's no pushover either. The 341-yard par 4 18th has plenty of tree trouble off the tee and there are large trees protecting the green as well. In addition to the course, Cherry Island also has a driving range, short-game area, and practice putting green. Golf lessons are also available. And in the clubhouse is a well-stocked golf shop. The clubhouse restaurant, The Taphouse at Cherry Hill, is open every day until 6 p.m. Menu offerings include everything from breakfast burritos and salads to brisket burgers and a variety of beers on tap.?

Los Lagos Golf Course

The new Los Lagos Golf Course is the cornerstone of San Jose’s recreational offerings. The par-68 course is conveniently located at the corner of Capitol Expressway and Tuers Road in central San Jose, moments from Highway 101. The 5,393-yard course is adjacent to Coyote Creek, and includes a competitive mix of nine par-three, four par-four, and five par-five holes. Los Lagos combines environmental preservation with a state-of-the-art facility. Designed by Brian Costello of JMP Golf Design Group in Belmont, the golf course is carefully integrated into the natural habitat surrounding Coyote Creek. The project created enhanced setbacks to preserve the sensitive creek environment. The golf course was designed to appeal to players at all levels of ability, and features both challenging and conservative routes of play on most holes.

Alhambra Golf Course

If you're looking for a fun course and classic design that won't beat you up, Alhambra Golf Course is a great choice. This William F. Bell designed par-71 layout is only 5,478 yards from the back tees, so you don't have to be a long hitter to have success here. Three other sets of the tees on the course, which opened in 1956, mean it's friendly for seniors, juniors and shorter hitters as well. If you're a good player, you might be thinking, "How low can I go?" But this course is certainly not without its challenges. You still have to play solid golf and make good decisions, but there are many opportunities to score with the par 5s being fairly reachable in two for longer hitters and some shorter par 4s that can set players up for birdies. There are plenty of trees on this parkland layout as well as a couple of lakes that come into play, and a few green side bunkers. There are also five par 3s on the course, ranging from 134 yards to 192 yards. In addition to the golf course, Alhambra also offers a lighted driving practice facility that includes a driving range, short-game area, and practice putting green. The award-winning golf shop has all the latest apparel, accessories and equipment, and it even offers on-the-spot regrouping service. And finally, the Almansor Grill in the clubhouse serves classic American fare for breakfast and lunch, including omelettes, French toast, club sandwiches, tuna melts and more.

Ten months in the construction process, the South Course at Foxtail has undergone an extensive renovation and is now open for play. Improvements include comprehensive fairway drainage, contoured and returfed fairways, and new bunkers and tees. There have also been irrigation improvements such as pond restoration and new pumps and controls. "Everything about the new South Course is better – new tees, contoured fairways and 14 new bunkers." says club General Manager John Theilade of the par-71, 6,500 yard layout. "The difference is night and day with the new drainage."

Williams in the early 1990’s. The North Course at Foxtail Golf Club is a par 72 playing from 5,200 to 6,800 yards and is easily playable with very few trees and flat, medium-sized greens. The North Course’s signature hole is #18, a 410-yard, par 4, with water coming into play on the right side of the fairway. The South Course at Foxtail Golf Club is a par 71 playing from 5,300 to 6,400 yards and is narrow and tree-lined, with a long back nine. The medium-sized greens on the South Course feature many slopes, and lakes come into play on five holes. The signature hole is #3, a 112-yard, par 3, requiring a tee shot over water to a green that is surrounded by a bunker in front and water in the back and on both sides. Foxtail Golf Club boasts one of the best golf instruction and practice facilities in the North Bay area of California with a driving range, practice greens and a sand bunker.
