Willie Nelson's Pedernales Cut 'N Putt

This is a beautiful nine-hole course spanning the hill-tops near the Pedernales River in western Travis County, Texas. It’s just 8 songs away from Austin. Owned by Willie Nelson and operated by Pro, Fran Szal, the Pedernales Golf Club is more than just a beautiful course; it’s a relaxing and refreshing divergence from the formal country club scene. The rules here are a little different. We play golf here to have fun, and as you would expect, a lot of fun is had by all.

Sheppard Afb, TX

Wind Creek Golf Club

An outstanding course designed by Pete Dye in 1957, Wind Creek is located on the grounds of Sheppard Air Force Base outside of Wichita Falls. Although primarily open to military personnel, the pro shop welcomes civilian play, and will help golfers hook up with someone who can accompany them on the course as a guest. Locals will tell you that it looks much easier that it actually plays. The course is characterized by wide landing areas off the tee, 40 bunkers, three ponds, and a creek that runs through the course and affects five holes on the back nine. The 434-yard par 4 No. 4 is listed as the number one handicap, but No. 17 is a 600-yard par 5 that is particularly testy in the wind. All par 5s are well over 500 yards. One great feature of the course is the 24-hour lighted driving range.

Kermit, TX

Winkler County Golf Course

This is a 9-hole public course that serves the entire county. Tee it up and whale away into the wide-open, hard-panned fairways that are flat and let your ball roll for miles. The greens are elevated, fairly large, and undulating. Winkler County is a simple course with few trees and random bunkers scattered throughout the design.

Colorado City, TX

WolfCreek Golf Links

Named after Wolf Creek, which runs through the course and was once the site of an old Indian campground, this is a links-style course set in the rolling terrain north of town. Wide-open fairways lure you to use your driver off the tee, and drives that find the firm fairways will roll more than usual, setting up a short iron for the approach. Water hazards are on five of the nine holes.
