Camarillo, CA

Camarillo Springs Golf Course

A popular public venue in Southern California, Camarillo Springs Golf Course is a challenging and fun layout that's sure to satiny every level of golfer. Designed by Ted Robinson and opened in 1971, the par-72 layout plays 6,921 yards from the back tees, but there are four other sets, starting at 4,297 yards to fit all skill levels. Located along the 101 Freeway, the course has a nice variety of holes, with water on more than half of them. The course also features great mountain views, rolling fairways and great weather most of the time. The first hole is actually the no. 1 handicap hole. The 400-yard hole is a sight dogleg left with a few obstacles to avoid along the way, like palm trees and a wash. The finishing stretch is particularly interesting. The 16th a short, dogleg right par-5 that plays over water, making it a great risk-reward hole. The par-4 17th plays almost 400 yards and tee shots short and right could find the water. The par-4 18th has water that comes into play on the entire left side of the hole, so it can be daunting. In addition to the course, Camarillo Springs offers a driving range, short-game area and practice putting green. The teaching staff at the facility's golf academy offers lessons for everyone from juniors to adults. Inside the clubhouse is a well-stocked golf shop. And Camarillo Springs also has a restaurant and bar, offering snacks, sandwiches and drinks.

Temecula, CA

The Legends Golf Club

Located in the middle of the beautiful Temecula Wine Country, The Legends Golf Club at Temeku Hills opened to rave reviews in 1995 and continues to pile up accolades today. Known simply as Temeku Hills Golf Club in the beginning, the course was designed by prolific architect Ted Robinson. In 2011 Perry Dye, son of the legendary Pete Dye, added his touches to this 6,636-yard, par-72 layout that features a nice variety of holes and excellent playing conditions. The course at The Legends Golf Club has rolling topography, five lakes, plenty of doglegs and five sets of tees to suit all levels of players. The lakes come into play on several holes, including the par-3 eighth, which requires players to carry the water on the tee shot. Each hole is dedicated to some of golf's most legendary names, hence the name of the course. For example, the first three holes are named for Old Tom Morris, Harry Vardon and Walter Hagan respectively. The last hole is dedicated to arguably the greatest player of all time, Jack Nicklaus. It's a 516-yard, risk-reward, dogleg left par 5 that features a stream that crosses in front of the green. The Legends Golf Club also has terrific practice facilities that include a full driving range and putting green. Lessons are also available from the staff of instructors at The Legends Golf Club. The clubhouse offers a well-stocked clubhouse as well as a full-service restaurant that accommodate up to 100 customers. The club is open to the public, but memberships are also available.
