While challenging the more seasoned golfer, The Plantation's two well-groomed courses provide a relaxing and picturesque golf experience for less skilled players as well. Brentwood, CA

Brentwood Golf Club

Brentwood Golf Course is a beautiful 18 hole course located in the foothills of Mount Diablo, and is a great choice for public golf in the San Francisco and Central Valley area. The Creekside and Hillside nines are the longest at 3,485 yards and 3,343 yards respectively. Together, the two form a par-72 course of just over 6,800 yards. The Diablo Nine, which is walking only, is 3,144 yards, and each nine, all designed by Ted Robinson, has four sets of tees. The holes features bunkers, water, mature trees, wildlife, and undulating greens with a variety of doglegs and some elevation change. The no. 1 and no. 2 handicap holes on the Creekside/Hillside Course are both long par 4s and are the last holes on each nine respectively. The ninth on The Creekside usually plays into the wind with water right of the fairway. There's water left on the long ninth hole on Hillside. The most difficult hole on the Diablo nine is the 553-yard, par-5 sixth, which has quite a few bunkers in the fairway, some of them pot bunkers. Brentwood Golf Club doesn't have a driving range, but it does have a practice net for warmups. There's also a practice putting green. And instruction is also available from the professional staff. Inside Brentwood's large clubhouse is a well-stocked golf shop with the latest in apparel, accessories and equipment. Brentwood's restaurant, Nines, is open every day, serving salads, sandwiches, burgers, entrees and beverages. The clubhouse is also available for special events and weddings.

New Buffalo, MI

The Woodlands Course at Whittaker

Carved from woods and wetlands, Whittaker Woods offers both spectacular golf and immersion in nature, nurturing your love of the game and delighting all your senses. Whittaker Woods is located in southwest Michigan's charming Harbor Country and is a "must play" on your pure Michigan golf adventure. Yet Whittaker Woods is definitely part of the Chicagoland golf scene at just 90 short minutes from downtown Chicago and literally steps from the Indiana state line. An 18-hole championship course that plays to 7,072 yards from the tips, Whittaker Woods was designed by the late Ken Killian, the legendary architect behind Kemper Lakes. Like many elite tracks of the modern era, Whittaker Woods, with a slope rating of 144 from the back tees, is formidable enough to challenge the most competitive golfers, yet features multiple tee placements allowing golfers of all abilities to partake and have fun. Indeed, the course plays under 5,000 yards from the front tees and has been cited by Michigan Golf as offering "great, playable golf for everyone." The course gets its name from Captain Wessel Whittaker, one of the region’s original settlers. Captain Whittaker ran his ship aground on the Lake Michigan coastline near what is now New Buffalo in 1834 and fell in love with the landscape, which he described as "a natural harbor surrounded by dunes and tall trees where a river flowed from the surrounding woodlands into Lake Michigan." The region’s natural beauty that so captivated Captain Whittaker is on full display at Whittaker Woods. Remarkably, fabulous golf is only part of the draw at Whittaker Woods. The stunning clubhouse is worth the trip in and of itself. It has the woodwork and stonework one might expect from its origins as a 1920s farmhouse and an amazing and eclectic assortment of memorabilia and sculpture displayed inside and out. Golfers and visitors alike may enjoy a full bar and a terrific dining atmosphere with delicious fare and friendly hospitality. A separate and stunning banquet facility, Fairway Hall, can accommodate groups up to 500.
