Westminster, CO

Hyland Hills Golf - Blue Course

The Greg Mastriona Golf Courses at Hyland Hills— Gold Course is the marquee 18-hole course at a 45-hole municipal complex in Westminster, Colorado. Though this very popular, affordable, top-value playing field was among the first championship golf courses in Denver’ s Northern Metropolitan area when it debuted in 1965, the layout took its current form in 1985 courtesy of a redesign and rerouting by architect Frank Hummel. The Greg Mastriona Golf Courses at Hyland Hills— Gold Course has amassed an impressive tournament history, having been the venue for the 1990 United States Women’ s Public Links Championship, the 2010 Colorado State Public Links Championship, and other C.G.A. and U.S.G.A. events. It has also appeared on Golf Advisor’ s list of the Top Courses in Colorado and even appeared once on Golf Digest list of top-100 U.S. courses you can play. The Greg Mastriona Golf Courses at Hyland Hills— Gold Course draws raves for its intriguing design and gorgeous views of the Rocky Mountains. The parkland-style layout features four sets of tee markers that provide distance options between 5,400 yards and 7,100 yards. In a setting largely free of housing, this dogleg-laden playing field starts with somewhat open holes before the tests tighten up and trees become more prevalent. Mature pine, spruce and cottonwood trees line the fairways. Water enters the fray on 11 holes, as a canal and no fewer than seven ponds populate the hilly golf grounds. Forced carries over water— the par-3 8th hole sports an island-like green— and thick rough give The Greg Mastriona Golf Courses at Hyland Hills— Gold Course much of its bite. The greens are receptive but tough to read, according to many regulars at the facility. What players remember most about the Greg Mastriona Golf Courses at Hyland Hills— Gold Course is the fun variety of holes and the gorgeous views of the Rocky Mountains. The back nine, highlighted by the par-5 15th, is full of scenic splendor. The Hyland Hills complex also includes a regulation length 9-hole course (formerly the front nine of the Gold Course) and two short 9-hole par-3 courses. If you wish to warm up before your tee time at the Greg Mastriona Golf Courses at Hyland Hills— Gold Course, there’ s a fully-lighted driving range located just south of the golf courses, and a chipping green with a sand bunker and a large putting green next to the golf shop
