Conyers, GA

Cherokee Run Golf Club

Offering a gorgeous, tree-lined hilly layout, Cherokee Run Golf Club, located about 30 minutes east of Atlanta in Conyers, is one of the top public facilities in the greater Atlanta area. Located within the Georgia International Horse Park, the Arnold Palmer Signature course, which was designed by Palmer and Ed Seay, opened 1995. It's been one of Golf Advisor's highest-rated courses for seven consecutive years, reaching a peak in 2021 at no. 6. The par-72 layout, plays anywhere from just under 5,000 yards to a little more than 7,000, so it will challenge and delight golfers of all abilities. With lots of doglegs, a few water features, 91 bunkers, and thick Georgia Pines hugging the fairways, it's certainly a great test. And it's also beautiful. There are lakes and ponds that come into play on about a third of the holes. And the long par-4 ninth and 10th are the course's no. 1 and no. 2 handicap holes respectively. The ninth is 463 yards from the tips. And the dogleg right 10th is 448 yards and features an approach that's all carry over water to the green. The final four holes are nicknamed "The Trail of Tears," evoking the unfortunate forced relocation of Native Americans in the 1800s. In addition to the course, Cherokee Run has a driving range, short-game area, and practice green. There's a vast selection of gear and apparel in the golf shop. And the clubhouse restaurant is open every day for golfers and non golfers alike. The club also has the "Palmer Room," available for special occasions and events.

Goleta, CA

Glen Annie Golf Club

Situated in the rolling foothills of Santa Barbara, Glen Annie Golf Club offers a championship layout with panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean and Channel Islands. Always maintained to the highest standards, the par-71 golf course, which was designed by Robert Muir Graves and Damon Pascuzzo, opened in 1997 to rave reviews. The course has four sets of tees, ranging from 5,005 yards to 6,417 yards. There's a nice variety of holes that wind between avocado groves and palm trees, with a good bit of elevation change. The short par-4 third, for example, plays downhill to a green fronted by a pond. The 14th is a par-5 with a sharp turn to the left that requires a bit of creativity and course management from the golfer. And the 18th is a short par 4 with a lake right of the fairway and another pond protecting the green short and right. Besides the course, Glen Annie Golf Club also has excellent practice facilities that include a driving range, short-game area, and practice putting green. Golf lessons are also available from the professional staff. There's a well-stocked golf shop, offering the latest in apparel, accessories and equipment in the clubhouse. Golfers and nongolfers will also enjoy the Frog Bar and Grill, one of Santa Barbara's most popular dining venues. It features spacious patios, fireplaces and an elegant dining room with great views of the golf course and surroundings. It's open for lunch every day and also available for banquets and special events.

Course photo for Golf Club at Champions CirclePublic tee-time evidence

Fort Worth, TX

Golf Club at Champions Circle

The Golf Club at Champions Circle in North Fort Worth, Texas is a favorite place to play among golfers looking for an intriguing, challenging course that delivers good value in the Dallas metroplex region. Located near the Texas Motor Speedway, the course debuted in 2000 as a Greg Norman creation before it was redesigned by Jay Morrish in 2002. In 2019 it was altered again to make room for BigShots Golf, a TopGolf-like driving range and entertainment center. The course is a chief amenity of the recently renovated Dallas/Fort Worth Marriott Hotel & Golf Club at Champions Circle. With a tee time at The Golf Club at Champions Circle, you'll be immersed in a beautiful setting on a fun layout that boasts a reputation for fine playing conditioning all year round. Morrish applied his minimalistic design ethos to The Golf Club at Champions Circle, as he let the natural topographic features of an old cattle ranch hold sway. The routing rambles over and around natural hillsides as it weaves its way amidst natural creeks, majestic oaks, limestone rock outcroppings. These features not only provide variety and fun, they also present strategic challenges. The Golf Club at Champions Circle is not an easy, cookie-cutter resort course. The Par-71 playing field can be played from four different, judiciously spaced sets of tee markers. Whereas the forward tees measure 4,753 yards, the tips extend to 6,487 yards. Accuracy rather than power is the key to scoring at The Golf Club at Champions Circle. Tee shots begin in chutes of trees on this tight layout that presents plenty of risk-reward options. Morrish's smooth putting surfaces are small and sloped. Practice facilities at The Golf Club at Champions Circle include a double-ended driving range, a chipping area, and two putting greens. The pro shop carries a wide variety of merchandise. With its clubhouse renovations and the addition of an impressive Texas-style event space, The Golf Club at Champions Circle strives to make the after-golf experience as fun as the round itself. No wonder golfers from all over the Metroplex region come to North Fort Worth for tee times at The Golf Club at Champions Circle.

Los Angeles, CA

Heroes Golf Course

Heroes Golf Course in Los Angeles is a 9-hole par-3 course that is a sanctuary for veterans and the entire LA community. It’ s a relaxing, welcoming, and inclusive facility that is an ideal spot for beginners and seniors and for anyone looking to get in a little practice on their short game. Located on the north campus of the West Los Angeles Veterans Administration Medical Center and beside a Japanese garden, Heroes Golf Course sits on land donated long ago as a refuge for wounded veterans. The course was built in 1946 and since 2008 it has been operated by the Bandini Foundation, whose mission is to assist in veterans therapy. The course features holes that range in length from 99 yards to 181 yards. Each test is named after a legendary general or admiral. There’ s just one teeing area per hole and it is matted. You can place a tee in the mats. Heroes Golf Course presents a mix of flat holes and tests with modest elevation changes. A number of trees add definition to the playing corridors and may complicate some of your shots, but the layout is largely devoid of trouble. You won’ t encounter any sand bunkers or water hazards. The greens are about average in size. What Heroes Golf Course does have is a feel-good ambiance, a relaxing setting and distant views of the Getty Center and downtown Beverly Hills. All play is walking and pull carts are available. Practice facilities are limited to a putting green. The upgraded Heroes Golf Course clubhouse features a pro shop, a snack shop, the outdoor “ Master View Deck,” and a patio. When you have a tee time to play here the proceeds go to the improvement of the course and to assist veterans. Heroes Golf Course is a hidden little 9-hole par-3 layout with a noble mission in West Los Angeles.

Two of the par 4s, the 4th and 6th holes, play 432 and 421 yards respectively, while the other eight all play less than 390 yards, but with the elevation changes, strategic fairway bunkering and well-bunkered greens, they all present fair challenges. Three of the four par 3s play less than 170 yards, while the 14th hole plays 206 yards. From the tee, one of the highest golfing points in the Valley, players can look down to the southeast and see the entire city.
