Set in the foothills of South Mountain, Foothills Golf Club in South Phoenix is a Jay Morrish and Tom Weiskopf design that has been delighting players of all levels and delivering good value ever since it opened in 1988. Some 65 bunkers lurk in strategic spots, while rocky desert looms beyond the groomed turf. Much of the fun of playing Foothills Golf Club comes from its variety of holes. The 6th hole is a Tom Weiskopf trademark test— a drivable par 4. The par-5 8th is a signature hole, as the fairway proceeds downhill and leads to a green guarded by water on the right that loops beyond the putting surface. Lakes enter play on three holes, including the 13th and 14th, which both hug opposite sides of the water. Foothills Golf Club’ s collection of tough par 3s is another strength of the golf course. Once you get to the greens, you’ ll find smooth putting surfaces that are pretty easy to read. When in doubt, remember that everything breaks toward South Mountain. Foothills Golf Club’ s clubhouse features a pro shop, locker rooms, special event rooms, a theater, restaurant and patio.
