New Kent, VA

The Golf Club At Viniterra

The Club at Viniterra is a playable and picturesque championship golf course located just off of I-64 in the golf-rich town of New Kent, Virginia. A Rees Jones Signature Course (with Greg Muirhead), the club anchors an upscale gated community beside the New Kent Winery about halfway between Richmond and Williamsburg. Since opening in 2009, The Club at Viniterra has racked up numerous awards. Not only has it been a fixture on Golf Advisor’ s list of the Top Courses in Virginia, it also cracked GolfWeek’ s honor roll of Top 10 Virginia Public Courses. Jones and Muirhead etched this nicely varied layout into rolling hills of a heavily wooded site. Although houses are in sight on some of the holes, you are more apt to focus on the abundant nature of this environmentally sensitive playing field. Each hole enjoys its own secluded, peaceful corridor in the woods. Pronounced elevation changes--sometimes as much as 70 feet between tee and green--add excitement and challenge to the game on the up-and down terrain. The Club at Viniterra, which has six sets of tee markers, offers a manageable distance for golfers of wide-ranging ability levels. The par-72 playing field extends from 4,529 yards to 7,513 yards. Choose your tees wisely, as the angle of play and the length required to carry the tall native grasses and ravines looming before the start of the fairways can vary significantly. The defense of par at The Club at Viniterra comes primarily from the fairway-framing trees. They make the rather wide landing areas seem narrower than they are and become a final resting place for balls that miss at the margins. Numerous strategically placed bunkers in the landing areas and beside the greens provide additional trouble. Water factors in only minimally, as aquatic hazards enter the fray on just a couple of holes. The greens at The Club at Viniterra are large and multi-tiered. They usually roll fast and true. Most players rate the collection of par 3s highlighted by the big-drop 16th hole as the most fun tests of the round. Practice facilities at The Club at Viniterra include a driving range, chipping green with sand bunker and putting green. The clubhouse features a pro shop and a grill restaurant that serves breakfast and an all-day menu. Whether you are looking for a tee time in Richmond or Williamsburg or somewhere in between, The Club at Viniterra is an impressive and f

Course photo for Woodstone Meadows at Massanutten ResortPublic tee-time evidence

Massanutten, VA

Woodstone Meadows at Massanutten Resort

Massanutten Resort, nestled in the scenic Blue Ridge Mountains near McGaheysville, Virginia, is renowned for its snow sports, but it also offers two excellent 18-hole golf courses. The Woodstone Meadows Course, located in a beautiful valley at the base of the mountain, is the resort’s most popular course and a great choice for golfers of all ages and skill levels. This sporty, executive-style course is short and beginner-friendly, with sections winding through the resort's condominium accommodations. It provides a fun, relaxed experience, ideal for a warm-up before tackling the more challenging, PGA-rated Mountain Green Course higher up on the mountain. Woodstone Meadows features elevated tee boxes that offer sweeping views of the course and the surrounding landscape. The course's wide fairways gently roll over moderate elevation changes, with most lies remaining level despite the uphill and downhill holes. The par-65 layout consists of nine par 3s, seven par 4s, and two par 5s, and measures between 3,605 and 5,065 yards from four sets of tees. Though it’s labeled as an executive course, the individual holes still offer a challenge. Notably, only one par 4 plays under 350 yards from the longest tees, and both par 5s stretch over 500 yards. One unique feature of the Woodstone Meadows layout is its back-to-back-to-back par 3 holes on each nine, adding a quirky element to the round. Water hazards, including creeks and ponds, also add a layer of excitement. The greens are user-friendly, with various shapes and sizes but minimal undulations, offering a consistent putting experience. The course also offers great practice facilities, including a driving range, putting green, and sand bunker, while the clubhouse features a pro shop and snack area. The Woodstone Meadows Course is open year-round, weather permitting, and on many days, guests can enjoy skiing at the top of the mountain and then play a round of golf afterward. Whether you're seeking a fun round on a relaxing executive course or a challenge with a scenic backdrop, the Woodstone Meadows Course at Massanutten Resort is a must-play destination.

Course photo for Bull Run Golf ClubPublic tee-time evidence

Haymarket, VA

Bull Run Golf Club

The Bull Run Country Club's 18-hole championship golf course, which opened in 1998, is set on a huge piece of open land in the foothills of Virginia's Bull Run Mountain. It is a quick drive from Washington, D.C., a few miles north of Haymarket, and a few miles south of Middleburg. The course was designed by Rick Jacobson, a Chicago-area architect who worked for Jack Nicklaus design company before starting his own firm. His aim at Bull Run was to preserve the look of the land and create a player-friendly course that also has loads of challenges for the more daring hitters. You will find wide fairways done in a concave/convex shape that steer the ball toward the center. There are large landing areas, sometimes defined by grass hollows, bunkers, or trees.
