Glen Allen, VA

Hunting Hawk Golf Club

Hunting Hawk Golf Club is located in a beautiful setting beside the Chickahominy River in Hanover County, Virginia. A great deal of care was taken during the design process to fit the golf course compatibly on this exceptional site selected by HHHunt Corporation. Working with the gently rolling terrain, mature stands of trees and wetland areas to incorporate them as features, allows the course to "lay lightly" on the land. These existing features and the surrounding scenery give the golf course an inherent visual quality and natural character. The golf course has been designed to provide players of all levels with a quality golf experience. There is a good diversity in the length of the course, from the Talon tees at 6832 yards to the Black Hawk at 6440, Gray Hawk at 6021, and the Red Hawk tees at 5164. Par for the course is 36 on the front nine holes and 35 on the back, for a total of 71. On each nine, the holes present a variety of lengths, directions and sequence of par to maintain the golfer's interest throughout their round. The distinct character and strategies of the holes will make for a challenging, yet enjoyable, test of golf that will be subtly different every time the course is played. The features of the golf course have also been designed to accommodate all players. Multiple teeing areas with four sets of markers on each hole allow golfers to select the length and challenge that is appropriate for their abilities. The fairways contain generous, well-defined landing areas and with strategically placed features such as sand bunkers, mounding or the existing mature trees to present golfers with many alternative ways to play each hole. Picturesque ponds give the course a serene quality and, at the same time, create excitement by coming into play on many of the holes. Depending upon the challenge of each hole, the size of the greens will differ to offer an exacting target. Each of the greens contain an undulating putting surface designed to create a variety of placements for the flagstick. Sand bunkers, mounds and grass hollows define and guard the greens while giving each hole an unique strategy and appearance.
