Oakview Links Golf Course

Oakview Links Golf Course, located near Highway 51 about nine miles northeast of Dyersburg, is a popular no-frills 9-hole layout in Newbern, Tennessee. The 1970-vintage playing field is owned by the City of Newbern but privately operated. Over the years the course has built up a loyal following of devoted members and regulars who really like it. Oakview Links Golf Course is fun for golfers of diverse skill levels, as it boasts an intriguing layout that spreads out over hilly terrain. As the name suggests, mature oaks dot the fairways, though they are not present in abundance. Most of the playing corridors are quite open. The par-36 layout provides two sets of tee markers. The forward markers measure 2,308 yards and the back tees extend to 3,017 yards. Oakview Links Golf Course allows players to ease into the round with an opening par-3 hole followed by a short par 4. While distance is a factor on a couple of tests, including a 560-yard par 5, the chief threats to scoring are water hazards that enter the fray on five holes and the hilly terrain. You can expect plenty of awkward lies and stances as you make your way around this pretty playing field that doesn’ t have any houses around it. Walking is permitted and common despite the hills. The greens are medium in size with some back-to-front tilt. Practice facilities at Oakview Links Golf Course are limited. You’ ll find a putting green and an area beside the clubhouse where you can hit various shots, but you’ ll have to use your own balls and retrieve them yourself. The spartan clubhouse has a golf shop where you can get a few snacks. Oakview Links Golf Course, the sister course to the more upscale 18-hole The Farms Golf Club in Dyersburg, stays open in the fall through Thanksgiving weekend. Fall Creek Falls Golf Course

A paradise of more than 20,000 acres sprawled across the eastern top of the rugged Cumberland Plateau, Fall Creek Falls State Park is one of the most scenic and spectacular outdoor recreation areas in America. Fall Creek Falls State Park is home to one of the most challenging 18-hole layouts carved out of the densely forested woodlands of the Cumberland Plateau. The course opened in 1972 and was designed by renowned designer Joe Lee. In 1998 the greens were rebuilt and restored to their original design and drainage work was performed in all 71 bunkers. The Signature Hole is #15, a Par 4, 429-yard dogleg left which requires a long drive to set up an accurate second shot to avoid several bunkers that protect the green.

One of the best public courses in Tennessee, Gaylord Spring Golf Links at Gaylord Opryland Resort is a wonderful design by former U.S. Open and PGA champ Larry Nelson. The course runs along the Cumberland River, with incredible views of the water below and limestone bluffs enhanced by federally protected wetlands. This links-style course has five sets of tees, playing from 5,179 yards to 6,842 yards. Named among the best courses and resorts by both Golf Digest Magazine and Golfweek as well as being one of the top rated courses in the state by Golf Advisor, Gaylord Springs is always in good condition and features some of the finest greens in the South. The signature hole is the par-4 fourth, which works around a lake and features a century-old springhouse from which the club derived its name. The next hole, the par-4 fifth, is one of the most difficult on the course. At 454 yards, golfers must carry a large lake off the tee then hit a long approach into a well-bunkered green. And the 18th, a par-4 that's also over 450 yards, features a lake down the entire right side. Gaylord Springs also has outstanding practice facilities that include a grass driving range, short game are and putting greens. It's also home to the Gaylord Springs Golf Institute, which offers great golf instruction, club fitting and club repair. Inside the the 43,000-square-foot antebellum-style clubhouse, visitors will find one of the top golf shops in America. And there's also? plenty of space for special events, conferences and a restaurant with great views of the golf course.?
