Seneca Golf Course

Using WPA funds, the city of Cleveland opened Seneca Golf Course on August 1, 1940 to provide “fine, low-cost, pay-as-you-play golfing” to westsiders. Only nine holes were opened with the purpose of gaining revenue to buy equipment to complete the other 27 holes the following year. Using a Parkland Design, where not a lot of earth was moved to create land features, both 18-hole courses have tree-lined fairways along gently rolling terrain and small greens.

Shale Creek, located just minutes from I-71, is easily accessible to golfers in Cleveland, Akron, Medina, and the surrounding areas. It is nestled in a residential community that has been the Gunkelman Farms for more than one hundred years. The York Township course is is built on beautiful rolling land with many small streams that wind through the property and cascade into the Rocky River. The course features Bent grass greens, tees, and fairways with strategic bunkers and five sets of tees on each hole to accommodate golfers of all skill levels. Shale Creek has several distinct natural areas, which help create a beautiful and uniquely different golf experience. All 18 holes blend naturally into their environment and are fun and interesting to play. Golfers will enjoy amenities such as large, undulating greens and chipping areas, a full practice facility and a clubhouse that when completed,will offer spectacular, panoramic views of the course.

Red Hawk Run is an 18-hole, par 72, "upscale public" course with five sets of tees that allow any golfer to play overall lengths ranging from over 7,000 yards from the back tees down to 5,000 yards from the forward markers. Bentgrass tees, fairways, and greens built according to USGA specifications provide excellence in golf. Red Hawk Lake and Eagle Lake will haunt you and six of the holes will challenge you to navigate across a menacing creek. The practice area features an 8 1/2 acre range with Bentgrass tees and target greens framed by sand bunkers to create realistic practice settings.
