Towa Golf Club

Located in the dramatic scenery of Northern New Mexico’s Pojoaque Valley, Towa’s three independent nine-hole courses challenge with dramatic elevation changes, seasonal weather conditions, and scenery of such extraordinary beauty it threatens to distract the most focused golfer. Whether you’re putting for birdie in the winter sunshine with a view of the Santa Fe Ski Mountain above or teeing off in the new greenery of the Spring, Towa can challenge the low handicappers, but offers an enjoyable experience for golfers of all levels. Part of the Hilton Santa Fe Golf Resort and Spa at Buffalo Thunder, Towa was designed jointly by twenty-time PGA titlist Hale Irwin and noted golf course designer and landscape architect William Phillips. • The Boulder Nine: Opened in 2001, this Phillips design measures 3,640 yards from the back tees. It features the only island green in New Mexico. • The Piñon Nine: Also opened in 2001, this is an Irwin-designed course measuring 3,615 yards. • The Valley Nine: The most recently-completed course, Valley is an Irwin design opened in 2009. It measures 3,575 yards. Towa takes advantage of the natural topography, unique rock formations and natural vegetation indigenous to the region providing excellent separation of the individual holes. The course’s fairways are a mix of Kentucky bluegrass, ryegrass, fescue roughs, and native grasses. Tees and greens are sodded with bentgrass. Elevation changes on all the courses keep every golfer on his or her toes. The final par 3 on the Boulder course drops 100 feet from the tee box to the green! The average green size for the course is 6,500 sq. ft., which is slightly larger than the national average of 6,300 sq. ft. The 27 holes have a USGA slope of 136 and USGA rating of 73.1 from the back tees. From the front tees, the holes have a slope of 101 and a rating of 62.3. Albuquerque, NM

University of New Mexico Golf Courses

Welcome to the University of New Mexico Golf Club Since it was officially opened in 1967, The Championship Golf Course has been one of the finest facilities of its kind nationwide. It has been nationally recognized by Golf Digest Magazine as one of the top-25 public courses in the country, and in January of 1991 Golfweek Magazine rated all public and private courses in the country by state, and dubbed The Championship Course the number one course to play in New Mexico. The Course is still holding strong in the rankings seven years later, and in 1998, Golfweek tabbed the Championship Course No. 2 in the West, behind only the Stanford University Golf Course in Palo Alto, Calif. The Championship Course is no stranger to major tournaments. It was the site of the 1950, 1976 and 1992 NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championships as well as the 1998 NCAA Championships. In 1987 the course was the sight of the women's NCAA tourney. The Championship Course has been home to the William H. Tucker Invitational for the past 43 years (2nd longest running college tournament), and in 2015 it hosted the 61st incarnation of the event. The course has also been home to three Western Athletic Conference Men's Championships (1979, 1982, 1989). Since 1979, The Championship Course has also been home to the prestigious Dick McGuire Intercollegiate, a major tournament in women's college golf. Like most class layouts, The Championship Course flashes a personality all its own. The 7,248-yard, par 72 course boasts fairways that stretch out long and wide, bobbing up and down, both right and left - all factors that make it difficult to reach the rolling, well-manicured greens. Stray shots often land in the rough, loose desert sand, water or sagebrush. The paradise-like climate of Albuquerque makes The Championship Golf Course at the University of New Mexico a perfect oasis for golf, be it January or June! 12 Shores at Ute Lake

Remarkable things happen when a golf course designer truly embraces a spectacular setting. The Nicklaus Design championship course at 12 Shores Golf Club is a brilliant example of exactly this. The layout is defined by its incomparable location on the south shore of Ute Lake in New Mexico. Five of the holes play directly to or along the lakefront and the entire golf course is carved into the natural shoreline.
