Douglass Golf Course

Frederick Douglass Golf Course and park was a donation of Claypool Farms in 1927 and developed into a golf course which catered to the African American community. The course opened in 1928. Douglass has held many championships and has entertained many personalities such as Joe Louis, Charlie Sifford, Ted Rhodes, Howard Wheeler, and "Tiger" Woods just to name a few. Douglass had six holes with tomatoe cans installed in the ground. Later it grew to nine holes. Douglass has had several national champions Edison Marshall, George Roddy, Lucy Williams (later married and won the nationals again). Mrs. Lucy won the nations four times. Ella Abel, Mrs. Bradley also won the Nationals. Douglass was the only Municipal owned golf course in the country named after an African American. People travel throughout the mid-west to play golf and enjoy friendships.

Duck Creek Country Club

We are a 18 hole golf course par 70. It is a great course to look around at. There are woods and water that come into play all around the course. You might see a deer or fox, or a owl setting there looking at you. All I can say is hit it straight when you come to the course.
