Perry, GA

Houston Lake Country Club

The golf course boasts 5 sets of tees, which include the championship tees that measure 6745 in total yards and par at 72. But don't let the length of the golf course fool you. Chances are, you will use just about every club in your bag during a round at Houston Lake! Narrow tee shots to manicured fairways lead to shots to big, undulating greens. It is a true test of club selection. The 18th hole at Houston Lake has won many awards as one of the top finishing holes in the state. "One of Georgia's Best Golf Holes" (Atlanta Constitution), it requires a tee shot that must carry the lake that runs in front of the tee box. The next shot requires another attempt to clear the same lake that cuts into the narrow fairway in front of the green. It truly is a great hole and has a breathtaking view.

Clarkesville, GA

Orchard

Established in 1989, opened for play in 1991, the 1100-acre master planned Private Country Club community located in Clarkesville, GA, is in one of the nation’s top-rated retirement communities. Nestled up against the Chattahoochee National Forest at the base of the Appalachian Mountains, the course was created amid apple orchards, annual flowering trees, shrubs, and cool running mountain streams. The creeks that wind throughout the property sustained the working cattle farm/orchard it once was and are now home to deer and other wildlife. The Orchard’s eighteen-hole championship layout is a journey through picturesque mountains making it the absolute golfing experience and nature at its best. Five sets of elevated tees, bermuda fairways, and flawless bentgrass greens guarded by white sand bunkers were designed and built by famed golf course architect, Dan Maples.

Shellman Bluff, GA

Sapelo Hammock Golf Club

Taking advantage of Georgia's scenic coastal landscape, Sapelo Hammock Golf Club offers a golf course that's both challenging and serene. The golf course, which opened in 2011 and was designed by Rusty Simmons, is rated more than 4 1/2 stars on GolfPass, and has also been rated as one of the top courses in Georgia by GolfPass readers. The layout weaves its way through marshes and live oak trees, covered in Spanish moss, providing plenty of obstacles along the way. At nearly 6,900 yards from the back tees, the course is a good test, even for long hitters, but four more sets of tees, starting at just 4,753 yards, make it playable by all. The golf course at Sapelo Hammock has a strong collection of par 5s. The no. 1 handicap hole is the 542-yard ninth. Though it's not particularly long -- and it is the longest hole on the course -- there's plenty of trouble with wetlands coming into play off the tee and on the approach, where the fairway tends to tighten up against the backdrop of trees on the left of this dogleg right. The course ends with a 500-yard par 5, a good risk-reward hole that. Brings in a creek that must be carried by anyone looking to go for this green in two. In addition to the course, Sapelo Hammock Golf Club has excellent practice facilities that include a driving range, short-game area and practice putting green. Lessons are available from the professional staff. And inside the clubhouse is a well-stocked golf shop and restaurant that's open every day. This semi-private club also offers limited onside accommodations for anyone looking to book a stay-and-play package.
