Richter Park Golf Course

One of Connecticut's best public plays, Richter Park is a championship test that has played host to many top amateur events over the years. The course, which opened in 1971 and was designed by Edward C. Ryder, staged the American Junior Golf Association championships four times, with the last coming in 2020, as well as the Met Public Links Championship (2013) and Connecticut Pub Links Championship (2009). The par-72 golf course, which is laid out over 180 hilly acres, plays nearly 6,800 yards from the tips. Lined by mature hardwoods, which are especially beautiful in the fall, the course has plenty of elevation change. The West Lake Reservoir borders seven holes on the front, with Boggs Pond coming into play on the signature par-5 12th, which has a peninsula green. The back nine is hillier than the front, and ends with the no. 2 handicap hole, the 18th, a 438-yard dogleg right par 4. While the course is certainly challenging, there are four sets of tees, starting at 4,922 yards. Besides the course, Richter Park, which was developed by the city of Danbury, has excellent practice facilities that include a driving range, short-game area and practice putting green. Individual and group lessons for adults as well as juniors are also offered. Inside the clubhouse is a fully stocked golf shop with plenty of clothes and equipment. There are also locker rooms as well as the grill room and patio for casual dining. There is also the Caf? on the Green for formal dining and catering.

Lyman Orchards Golf Club – 30 minutes north of New Haven – is the apple of Connecticut’s eye. Opened in 1969 with Robert Trent Jones designing a championship golf course that today is host of the 79th Connecticut PGA Championship. Affectionately known as "The Jones Course," this 18 hole course is among every golfer's favorites. In 1994, world-renowned player and golf course designer Gary Player opened the second course. "The Player Course" is sprinkled with deciduous trees and classic white pines. Both courses are ranked among CT's Top Ten Public Golf Courses, The Best of the Northeast and recently recognized by the nationally acclaimed Zagat Survey and Zagat.com as among of the best courses to play in the United States.

Oak Hills Park Golf Course

Oak Hills Park Golf Course is one of southwest Connecticut's best public courses. It regularly draws raves from local golfers as a favorite tee time in Fairfield County. While this 1969-vintage facility is owned by the city of Norwalk, it is managed by a private board. The golf course was one of the last designed by Alfred Tull during his long career. Tull was the design partner of the renowned Devereux Emmet, and he continued the practice after Emmet died. The par-71 Oak Hills Park Golf Course is a fun test in a peaceful and picturesque setting. It features three sets of tee markers. Players take on the challenge at either 5,208 yards, 5,920 yards, or 6,317 yards. You’ ll find a classic, hilly New England landscape at the outset of the round. The first six holes at Oak Hills Park Golf Course are quite challenging, as mature trees line the tight fairways. After the very scenic opening stretch, the layout opens up and flattens out somewhat. The wider playing corridors allow for better scoring opportunities. One hole that tests players for length is the no. 1 handicap 9th, by far the longest par 4 of the day at 456 yards from the back markers. Oak Hills Park Golf Course is a treat from start to finish. Tull, who had the unique talent of being able to walk a site and plan a layout without the use of a map, devised holes of impressive variety on this course that is delightfully devoid of housing. Water, mostly in the form of ponds, comes into play on seven holes. Beware also that the rough can be thick, though it also can save golf balls from disappearing into the trees. Oak Hills Park Golf Course is especially noted for its well-conditioned greens. The putting surfaces typically roll fast and true. Practice facilities are limited. There’ s a putting green and a chipping green but no driving range. The clubhouse features a pro shop and a restaurant. Oak Hills Park Golf Course isn’ t a long course, but it gives players all the challenges they want. Be sure to make your tee time as soon as possible to get the slot you want. Play one time at Oak Hills Park Golf Course and you'll see why golfers from all throughout Fairfield County return again and again.
