Course photo for Golf Club at Terra LagoPublic access under review

Indio, CA

Golf Club at Terra Lago

The Golf Club at Terra Lago North Course is the marquee layout at a stunning 36-hole desert oasis in Indio, California. Located 10 miles from La Quinta and about 25 miles southeast of Palm Springs International Airport, The Golf Club at Terra Lago North Course is a draw for golfers from all over the Coachella Valley and beyond. Like its sister layout, The Golf Club at Terra Lago South Course, the North is a highly varied and challenging championship test built by the design duo of Lee Schmidt and Brian Curley in 1999. Both eighteens are immersed in the natural desert landscape of the Indio foothills and largely free of course-side housing. Though Schmidt and Curley?laid out the playing fields with professional golfers in mind, The Golf Club at Terra Lago North Course receives more play because golfers find it easier and more fun than the South Course. Many local and traveling golfers also want to take it on because they know it from television. From 1999 to 2002 The Club at Terra Lago North Course hosted the PGA Tour Skins Game that was an annual tradition at Thanksgiving Weekend. Tiger Woods, Fred Couples, Greg Norman and Phil Mickelson were among the competitors who dueled it out here for big money during that four-year period. The North Course is known for its elevated tee boxes, dramatic elevation changes, blind shots, slick false-fronted and dramatically undulating greens, and, most of all, for its signature island-green par-3 15th hole. You’ ll find short holes and long holes (the 5th and 6th are back-to-back par 5s), tight holes and wide tests. The 14th, 15th, and 18th all are routed around (or in!) a lake, but the entire round offers one exciting and formidably?challenging hole after another. Both courses at The Golf Club at Terra Lago are exposed to the wind. Note that the wind is usually strongest in the months of April and May. If you want to warm up before your round, you’ ll find a driving range, a chipping area with a sand bunker, and a putting green. The clubhouse, which includes a pro shop and a bar and grill, is adorned with photographs from the Skins Game. When you have a tee time to play The Golf Club at Terra Lago North Course in Indio, you’ ll walk in the footsteps of some of the game's most accomplished and renowned players as you test your skills on a beautiful and challenging layout.

Palm Desert, CA

Palm Desert Resort Country Club

Set against the backdrop of the Santa Rosa and San Jacinto mountains, Palm Desert Resort Country Club offers a well-maintained golf course that's both beginner friendly and challenging to better players. Around 6,600 yards from the back set of tees, the course has numerous water features and bunkers, as well as plenty of palm trees to navigate to provide plenty of challenge for the better. But five sets of tees, starting at 4,507 yards, means it's very player-friendly. Wide fairways and large greens with openings between the bunkers are great for those who like to play running shots, while the better player will find plenty of opportunities to score. The course is hardly a pushover, though. The no. 1 handicap hole is the 471-yard par-4 11th, a dogleg right that requires a long, accurate tee shot to get a good look at the green. Palm Desert Resort Country Club, which was designed by Joe Mulleneaux and opened in 1983, has a nice variety of par 5s and par 3s. The par-5 fifth is just 484 yards from the tips, so it's a good risk-reward hole with a lake that goes down the entire right side of the approach on this dogleg right hole. The par 3s range from 158 yards to 203 yards from the back tees. In addition to the golf course, Palm Desert Country Club also has a driving range and putting green. Lessons are also available from the professional staff. The Resorter Cafe is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, offering breakfast burritos, sandwiches, burgers, and salads.

Course photo for Navy Golf Course - Cruiser CoursePublic tee-time evidence

Cypress, CA

Navy Golf Course - Cruiser Course

Certainly one of the better military courses in the world, the Navy Golf Seal Beach Destroyer Course is a good test of golf with interesting scenery. The 6.780-yard, par-72 layout has plenty of palm trees, a few water features and a Navy base in the background. Open to the public as well as active and retired military, golfers can also enjoy watching Navy airplanes take off and land in the background. The Destroyer Course, which opened in 1966 and was designed by Joe Williams and Casey O'Callaghan Golf Design, has several ponds and one large lake that comes into play. The lake sits in between the fifth, 15th and 15th holes. The 15th is a par-3 with water on the right, while the 16th is one of the most difficult holes on the course, playing 444 yards from the tips with the lake coming into play on the approach. The no. 1 handicap hole on the course is the 558-yard par-5 third hole. It's a dogleg left with a pond that comes into play on the approach. In addition to the Destroyer Course, Navy Golf Seal Beach also has a nine-hole executive golf course called The Cruiser, which is better for beginners or anyone looking for a quick round. In addition to the golf courses, Navy Seal Beach also has a driving range, short-game area with practice bunker and practice green. A renovated clubhouse has a complete golf shop as well as a restaurant, which is open daily for breakfast and lunch.
