Dobson Ranch Golf Course

One of the best and most fun municipal golf courses experiences anywhere, Dobson Ranch is a friendly, innovative operation that's an integral part of the community. With a Top Tracer range, music in the background (and available on the golf carts via bluetooth) this isn't your grandpa's stuffy golf course. Dobson Ranch is about getting everyone involved, including growing the game, especially among juniors and veterans. As for the course, which used to be a working ranch (hence the name), it has undergone vast improvements over the past decade or so. Designed by Red Lawrence and Jeff Hardin, it first opened in 1974. Playing almost 6,700 yards from the back tees, the parkland layout has an abundance of mature hardwoods, lakes, streams and gentle greens complexes that give players lots of options to reach them. There are three sets of tees, starting around 5,600 yards. The no. 1 handicap hole is the par-4 eighth, a dogleg left that plays just over 400 yards. A creek runs down the left side and in front of the green. Besides the Top Tracer setup at the driving range, there's also an extensive short-game area and putting greens. The golf shop at Dobson Ranch is also exceptional and unique with an indoor putting green and the largest selection of new and used clubs of any course in Arizona. Apparel and gift selections appeal to a wide variety of customers, and the service is unparalleled. The restaurant at Dobson Ranch has a sports bar feel to it with pool tables, video games and menu that offers everything from tacos, sandwiches, chili con quest and chips to craft beer.

Sun City, AZ

Palmbrook Golf Club

One of the better values in the Phoenix area, Palmbrook Golf Club (formerly Palmbrook Country Club) is a very pleasant semi-private facility with a golf course that's extremely playable and enjoyable. The par-72, 6,853-yard course has palm trees and hardwoods smattered around a parkland layout that features a meandering brook and several lakes. Four sets of tee boxes means there's a right yardage for virtually every player. The front nine features several dogleg holes and strategic bunkering, while water comes into play more on the back nine with the aforementioned brook and lakes. The finishing stretch is particularly challenging. The par-4 16th is 475 yards from the back tees, while the dogleg left par-5 17th is 558 yards. The 18th is just 398 yards long, but there is a forced carry off the tee. The golf course, which was designed by Jeff Hardin and opened for play in 1972, is known for its terrific conditions and friendly service. Palmbrook Country Club also offers excellent practice facilities, which include a full driving range, short-game area with practice bunker and putting green. All-day practice passes are available. The club's golf shop is well-stocked with the latest in apparel, accessories and equipment. The clubhouse grill is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner on select days. Menu items in the restaurant include breakfast burritos, Reubens and rib-eye steaks at dinner. Palmbrook Country Club is also a popular spot for weddings and special events.

Gold Canyon, AZ

Mountain Brook Golf Club

Mountain Brook Golf Club, an 18-hole semi-private course, is a favorite tee time in Gold Canyon, Arizona. Tucked near the back of the Superstition Mountains about 40 miles east of Phoenix, it’ s a traditional shotmaker’ s test that players of wide-ranging skill levels find fun and user-friendly. Mountain Brook Golf Club recently earned honors from Golf Advisor as one of the most improved golf courses in the United States. Architect Brian Whitcomb designed the playing field in 1996 on flat terrain. Although plenty of houses line the fairways, the golf grounds are wide and the views of the mountains are inspiring. With four sets of tee markers and another hybrid option on the scorecard, players can take on the challenge of this par-71 layout from as short as 5,009 yards and as long as 6,641 yards. Mountain Brook Golf Club’ s routing begins and ends with a long par 5. Water enters the fray on only three holes— the 2nd, 3rd and 4th. On the par-3 3rd, to reach the green you must thread your ball between two ponds. As you make your way through the round at Mountain Brook Golf Club, beware of both the rough and the strategically placed bunkers lurking in the fairways and by the greens. In most cases, the bunkers by the greens are situated beside the putting surfaces, though a notable exception is the 8th hole where three sand pits front the green. Mountain Brook Golf Course boasts nice, fast greens with breaks influenced by the mountains. Some of the greens have intriguing pin placement possibilities. Practice facilities at the club span twelve acres and include a dedicated short game area designed by Phil Mickelson. If you want to warm up before your round, you can use the driving range and putting green. Mountain Brook Golf Club boasts a full-service clubhouse with a pro shop and a restaurant. Don’ t miss out on a tee time at this friendly and fun golf facility to the east of Phoenix in Pinal County.

The NEW McDowell Mountain Golf Club is Now Open! McDowell Mountain Golf Club (formerly the Sanctuary Golf Course) re-opened with a bang when PGA Tour great and former Arizona State Sun Devil, Phil Mickelson struck the first tee shot and took part in the ribbon cutting ceremony with Scottsdale Mayor Jim Lane in October. Mickelson, Honorable Mayor Lane, Steve "Coach" Loy and course architect Randy Heckenkemper were on hand to unveil the newly enhanced McDowell Mountain Golf Club. Located in the heart of Scottsdale on natural desert landscape owned jointly by the Federal Bureau of Reclamation and the City of Scottsdale, McDowell Mountain Golf Club is certainly creating a buzz in the Scottsdale golf scene. In spring of 2011, Phil Mickelson and "Coach" Steve Loy acquired the operating rights to McDowell Mountain Golf Club, and this summer with Scottsdale-based OB Sports, took on a significant golf course enhancement and renovation that was designed to make the course more challenging for the better players, while at the same time making the course more forgiving, enjoyable and fun for beginning golfers, families and players of all abilities. Course revisions were overseen by golf course architect Randy Heckenkemper and included widening of the playing corridors, the reshaping of a number of fairways, several new teeing areas, additional strategic waste bunkers, and more! Other specific enhancements included over 460 yards were added to the "Back Tees," the nines were flipped to create a more dramatic finish to the round, a number of bunkers were filled-in to create a more playable experience for the average golfer and new signage and decorative features were added throughout the property including new tee markers, new hole monuments, several bronze animal sculptures, and the addition of an elegant new McDowell Mountain Rolex Clock! "We really wanted to make the golf course that was family friendly and fun to play," stated Phil Mickelson. "By strategically adding grass in and cleaning up the desert areas, making the corridors much bigger, we feel like we made it a much more enjoyable experience. We now feel like this is a fun experience for everyone," added Mickelson. Built on the western s
