Course photo for Kiva Dunes Golf ClubPublic tee-time evidence

Gulf Shores, AL

Kiva Dunes Golf Club

Kiva Dunes Golf Course in Gulf Shores, Alabama, is a must-play, upscale tee time in the Gulf Shores golf mecca. Ever since opening in 1995, this Jerry Pate design has been a perennial contender for top honors among Alabama’ s public courses. Golf Advisor has frequently included Kiva Dunes Golf Course in its prestigious Golfer’ s Choice honor roll of the top-50 public courses in the nation, and over the years all of the major golf magazines have rated it in their top-100 course compilations. Kiva Dunes Golf Course is spectacularly beautiful. The playing field meanders through pristine sand dunes, lakes, wetlands, and natural wildlife areas. Pate’ s brawny, links-style routing is quite varied with its mix of short and long par 4s, back-to-back par 5s, and outstanding collection of par 3s. Though the fairways are extra-wide, this championship course is anything but easy. Sandy waste areas, a plethora of bunkers, tall grasses and thick vegetation, along with large greens, are just some of the layout’ s defenses against par. Kiva Dunes Golf Course has earned a sterling reputation for its fine course conditioning and excellent TifEagle greens that roll fast and true. While parts of the playing field are just several hundred yards from the Gulf of Mexico, there are no sea views from the course. No matter. Water in the form of lakes, ponds and wetlands comes into play on nearly every hole. You’ ll also feel the Gulf breezes throughout the round, and when the wind is up, Kiva Dunes Golf Course really shows its teeth. Players can take on this par-72 test from as short as 5,006 yards and as long as 7,092 yards. Since Pate calls upon players to pull off forced carry tee shots from all but the most forward of the five sets of tee markers, choosing the proper set is crucial to scoring and to your enjoyment of the game. Practice facilities at Kiva Dunes Golf Course include a driving range, chipping area and putting green. The clubhouse features a pro shop and the Kiva Grill restaurant which has indoor and outdoor seating. The outdoor area is enclosed to keep the bugs at bay. Do whatever you can to get a tee time at Kiva Dunes Golf Course— it's one of the premier courses in the country.
