Indian Canyons Golf Resort— South Course is the jewel of a 36-hole golf facility that spreads out over 550 acres on the Agua Caliente Indian Reservation in Palm Springs. The course is one of the most popular tee time options in the prolific Coachella Valley golf mecca because it is fun and playable for golfers of all skill levels, sublimely beautiful, and very affordable. Surrounded by the San Jacinto Mountains in Palm Springs’ s jaw-dropping canyon district, it is just 10 minutes south of downtown Palm Springs. Known as one of the best value courses in the Coachella Valley, Indian Canyons Golf Resort— South Course has appeared on national lists of the Best Courses You Can Play Under $100 as well as Golf Advisor’ s honor roll of Top Courses in California. Originally built by William F. Bell in the early 1960s, the course was once part of a private club that was a favorite playground of Hollywood celebrities like Frank Sinatra and Bob Hope. In 2004 course architect Casey O’ Callahan, with player consultant LPGA legend Amy Alcott, completely redesigned the playing field. When you play Indian Canyons Golf Resort— South Course, you feel like you are in an oasis. The mountains in the canyon district help shield the golf grounds from Palm Springs’ s notorious wind. Aside from a corner of the golf course and the 15th hole, you don't play anywhere near houses here. With five sets of tee markers, the layout can play as short as 4,826 yards and as long as 6,560 yards. Thanks to Amy Alcott’ s contributions, the forward tees on the Indian Canyons Golf Resort— South Course provide an intriguing and appropriate challenge that makes the course a draw for women. The entire layout sports nice variety, as there are five par 3s, eight par 4s, and five par 5s. You’ ll find generous fairways, large undulating greens, and a number of shorter par 4s that are especially fun. Stunning vistas predominate, while four lakes and nearly 900 palm trees add to the aesthetics and strategy of the layout. The majority of the palms are Washingtonia Filifera (recognizable by their wide palm-frond skirts), which hold special meaning for the Agua Caliente tribal community. Practice facilities include a grass driving range and a putting green. The South Course has its own clubhouse featuring a well-stocked pro shop and a bar and grill with seating indoors and outdoors showcasing golf course and mo
