Imperial Palms Golf Resort is steeped in history dating back to when it was built in 1927, a classic tree lined gem designed by noted course architect Lawrence Hughes, a southern California native who designed over 20 courses in California and Arizona. The par 72 course is short by today’s standards measuring just over 6,500 yards when stretched to the blue tees for 18 holes, but don’t be fooled, the Imperial Palms layout will challenge the best of golfers with some small sloping greens and fairways lined with old tall trees. In this somewhat desolate region of the state the wind can be brutal at times making some of the holes, in particular the par 4, 18th, a real test. It is easy to see that the designer knew what he was doing, routing the course wonderfully and having been built in 1927 when modern equipment was not available, basically took what the terrain offered up and created a relatively flat, side by side 18 holes.
