Chimera Golf Club may not be a destination course in the Las Vegas golf realm, but it regularly draws rave reviews from locals and visitors alike looking for a fine, fun and forgiving round of golf that delivers good value. Located in Henderson, not quite 15 miles from The Strip, Chimera Golf Club is a Ted Robinson, Jr. design that was originally known as Tuscany Golf Club when it opened in 2003. The name change came with an ownership change. A couple of metal sculptures of the chimera, a monstrous fire-breathing hybrid creature from Greek mythology, adorn this course that anchors a gated community. Ted Robinson Jr., made the most of a rather confined playing field that is ringed by houses. Chimera Golf Club features fairly wide fairways, frequent but mostly mild elevation changes, a few water features, desert beyond the mounded fairways, lots of bunkers, and very nice greens. Topping out at just under 6,800 yards and noted for its short par 4s, this is a course that plays rather short and calls for placement rather than power. Chimera Golf Club is not a desert target course. You’ ll find grass from tee to green. While houses and desert surround the playing field, they are mostly removed from the action. Since the fairways are bowed at the margins, even errant shots tend to stay in play. ?Anyone who chooses the proper set of tee markers and can keep the ball in play has a chance to shoot a good score here. The greens also inspire confidence when it's time to putt?because they don’ t have a lot of break. Chimera Golf Club yields nice views of the desert mountain surroundings and of The Strip. The ends of each nine stand out as strategic and aesthetic highlights of the round. On the 9th hole a beautiful waterfall runs the length of the deep, undulating green. A little pond with a fountain sits off to the right side of the elevated green on the par-3 17th, while water poses the primary hazard on the picturesque par-4 finishing hole that is backdropped by the Stratosphere. The driving range showcases views of The Strip, Downtown Vegas, and snow-capped Mt. Charleston. The graceful clubhouse enjoys a setting reminiscent of a Tuscan Village and includes a well-stocked golf shop and a pub and fine dining restaurant. The clubhouse patio is a spot to savor your food and drink as you take in another stunning view of The Strip. Over the years, Chimera Golf Club has earn
