About the course
Understand the course before making an access claim.
The Woods at Cherry Creek Golf Course in Riverhead, New York has been a popular public tee time on the East End of Long Island ever since it opened in 2002. It sits directly across the street from its older and better known sister eighteen, The Links at Cherry Creek Golf Course, which famously finishes with a par 6. Both courses have appeared on Golf Advisors list of the Top Courses in New York. The Woods at Cherry Creek Golf Course, is, as its name suggests, a contrasting layout with playing corridors carved out of forestland. While there are a few gentle doglegs, most of the holes play straight ahead with trees lining the entire length of the hole. Four sets of tee markers provide distance options as short as 5,059 yards and as long as 6,550 yards on the par-71 Woods at Cherry Creek Golf Course. The front nine is a little flatter and easier (it also has three par 3s), while the back nine tightens up considerably in spots as it rambles over more rolling terrain. If you can hit straight shots, you’ ll do well here. If you can’ t, you’ d better bring a few extra balls. Besides the seemingly ubiquitous trees, another prime source of trouble on The Woods at Cherry Creek Golf Course is water, which threatens swings on seven holes. A centerpiece sculptured pond comes into play on four holes. The greens on The Woods at Cherry Creek Golf Course may give you some confidence, as they don’ t have any dramatic undulations. They roll true and many players find them easy to read. While The Links at Cherry Creek Golf Course stays open year-round, The Woods typically closes for the season sometime after Thanksgiving. By late October, however, the fallen leaves blowing all over the golf grounds can make for frustrating playing conditions. If you want to warm up for your tee time at The Woods at Cherry Creek Golf Course you’ ll find a putting and short game area. There’ s a driving range across the street at The Links, but because you can’ t take carts there, the course advises that you arrive early and drive your car directly there before coming to The Woods. The Woods at Cherry Creek Golf Course has its own clubhouse with a pro shop, banquet space, a full-service restaurant and bar, and outside seating with a fire pit. It’ s no wonder so many golfers enjoy a fun and memorable day when they have a tee time at The Woods at Cherry Creek Golf Course on Long Island’ s East End.
