Opened in 1966, this Jack Kidwell-designed championship course bordering Big Walnut Creek offers mature tree-lined fairways, strategically placed water hazards and a unique parade of aircraft courtesy of the Port Columbus International Airport. Airport Golf Course is Temporarily Closed The Columbus Port Authority is directing a runway expansion project, funded by the Federal Aviation Administration, that will allow airplanes to simultaneously take off and land on the two runways located at Port Columbus International Airport. To do this, a new south runway will be constructed 702 ft. further south of its current location, and it's landing lights that are located on the city's adjoining Airport Golf Course will also have to be moved. This will impact 12 of the course's 18 holes and will mean that the course will be closed from September 2011 until the spring of 2013. But, the good news is that when it does reopen, the course will still have the integrity of the original Jack Kidwell design, but with a modern twist for the 21st century golfer designed by the nationally-renowned golf course architect Dr. Michael Hurdzan. In the meantime, we hope that the customers of Airport Golf Course will take advantage of playing one of the city’s other six courses – Champions, Mentel Memorial, Raymond Memorial, Turnberry, Walnut Hill or Wilson Rd. – over the new 18 months.
